Walnut Hills ranks 65th among U.S. high schools

By Ben Fischer • bfischer@enquirer.com

Walnut Hills High School again made U.S. News & World Report’s list of the top 100 public high schools in the United States, published today, ranking No. 65 and earning a gold medal from the magazine.

That’s the highest ranking of any school in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, but it’s down from 2008, when Walnut Hills was ranked No. 36. Wyoming High School only received an honorable mention this year after being rated No. 50 last year.

Two schools in the region earned silver medals, meaning they rated between 101 and 561 nationally: Beechwood High School and Highlands High School in Northern Kentucky.

Four schools earned bronze medals, putting them in the next tier down, between 562 and 1,750 nationally: Clark Montessori, Fairfield High School, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School, and Ludlow High School.

The magazine only gives numerical rankings to the top 100 schools. Rankings are based on data from state proficiency tests, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaurate test data.
