Congratulations to the hard working crews building The Banks!!!

A safety luncheon was held for the crews yesterday in recognition of their teamwork and consistent adherence to the “Safety First” guidelines established by the project construction manager, Messer/MBJ. For a project of this scope, 210,000 hours without lost time injury is certainly notable. Way to go and continue to work safely!

So much to report, I’ll stick with some highlights – Major sewer and water line work, some ongoing and some completed, the elevator to Block 26 garage from Second Street being installed. The blacktop driveway entrance into the garage from Mehring Way is now paved. Lot D is filled with equipment, piping, and archaeologists! Yes, archaeologists are doing a historical excavation prior to the Mehring Way realignment. They are looking for signs of buildings that lined Water Street. The dig site will be documented and then restored and readied for the new roadwork. So far, the stacked stone foundations of two buildings have been unearthed along with signs of the people and businesses that existed there in the 1860’s. Salvaged thus far are pieces of pottery, broken milk bottles, bits of dishes, railroad ties and spikes. There will be a day designated for public viewing of the work and remnants.
