That’s according to estimates compiled by Business First of Buffalo, a sister publication of Cincinnati Business Courier.

Business First has developed a computer program that projects the current populations of villages, cities, towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan and micropolitan areas across the country, based on an analysis of demographic trends since 2000. Updated results are published periodically in the newspaper and on its website.

The Cincinnati region is projected to hit the 2.2 million mark tomorrow, March 8.

New York City, with a population of 19.2 million, remains the largest metro area in America. It’s followed by Los Angeles (12.96 million), Chicago (9.67 million), Dallas-Fort Worth (6.71 million) and Houston (6.11 million).

Rounding out the national top 10 are Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, Washington and Boston.

Twenty-nine metros have at least 2 million residents, and another 23 are currently above 1 million.
