Christ Hospital to start $265M expansion in June

Business Courier
Christ Hospital will start construction in June on a $265 million expansion and improvement project at its main campus in Mount Auburn.

The development will include a 332,000-square-foot facility dedicated to orthopedic and spine care, just south of the main hospital. The Business Courier broke the news about the proposed project in June 2010.

The center will include 60 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating rooms dedicated to orthopedic and spine surgeries, two unfinished operating rooms for future growth, physical and occupational therapy services, imaging services, offices and an underground parking garage for 150 vehicles.

The eight-story center is expected to be completed in spring 2015 and open later that summer.

“Our decision to construct the area’s only dedicated center for orthopedic and spine care furthers the Christ Hospital’s mission to provide the finest patient experience and improve the health of the community,” CEO Susan Croushore said in a news release. “This unique specialty facility will enhance patients’ healing experience and create ease of access so that patients may move seamlessly through the continuum of care.”

The campus expansion also includes construction of a new 900-space visitor parking garage, located on the corner of Auburn Avenue and Mason Street. The garage is expected to be complete in late 2013. The first floor is reserved for possible retail or community use.

The current garage will be removed this June.

The last piece of the expansion is a materials management building will be relocated to a new building on the northern portion of the campus.

Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP is providing architectural services for the project. Cincinnati-based Messer Construction Co. has been selected as construction manager.
